Looking to buy a Laptop? Think about a Netbook!
0A Netbook (InterNET and noteBOOK) is a class of Laptop computer designed for wireless communication and access to the Internet. Netbook is primarily designed for web-browsing and emailing. Netbooks are gaining grounds on their compact design, slimmer looks and sleeker appeal. Netbook is a Notebook computer with a low-powered x86-compatible processor (compatible with PC standard software), small screen (no larger than 10 inches), small keyboard, equipped with wireless connectivity, lightweight (under three pounds) and generally with no optical disk drive. They sometimes have Solid State Drives (SSDs) instead of Hard Disk Drives, which are lower capacity but have no moving parts and should, in theory, increase battery life and speed. Netbooks can run either Linux or Windows XP.
The obvious question is why should anyone buy a device with a smaller screen, slower processor, no optical drive when you can get a full-featured notebook? When it comes to a portable computer, the things that matter to most are speed and convenience. A Netbook is more convenient because it is lighter, and it usually has a lightweight operating system. The processor itself isn’t as powerful, but there’s much less processing that needs to be done with Windows XP or Linux in order to be usable. If we are just looking for a portable computer to take along with us while traveling, to check e-mail, chat on Skype, watch some Youtube videos, take some notes, then a Netbook is what we want. Where as if we’re going to do intensive image editing, multimedia authoring, gaming etc then a Notebook/Laptopi is more suited for our needs. Don’t confuse these low cost Netbooks with some of the sub-compact full featured Notebooks that are also out there. Sony, Dell and others also offer small lightweight Notebooks that have all the features of a full size computer in a tiny package but at a hefty price of $1400 and up. Some of these have plenty of power and features and up to 9 hours of battery life. These are real computers that are just packed into really small cases.
Let’s see the differences between a typical Netbook and a regular Notebook. Features of Dell Mini 9 Netbook are compared with a regular sized Dell Inspiron Notebook below:Inspiron Mini 9Proecessor: Intel Atom Processor N270Screen: 8. 9” Weight: 5. 9lbs. Battery: 6-cell batteryProcessor speed: 2 GHzMemory: 4GB, Disk 320GBOS: Windows VistaOptions: Camera, Bluetooth, ext Bat, More memCost: $699Pros compared to a regular Laptop:- Excellent portability due to small size and light weight- Good enough for basic computer tasks- Relatively low costCons compared to a regular Laptop:- Small screen/lower resolution, small keyboard due to small size- Limited processing power- Hardware upgrades can be more challenging- Due to lower processing capabilities, size and cost, advanced features are less adopted (FireWire, HDMI, etc. . . )
It seems that Initially Netbook category was lead by Asus, Acer, but today computer giants Dell and HP jumped into the race. According to the PcWorld. com the TOP 10 Netbooks are:1. Asus EEE PC 1000HE2. Acer Aspire ONE AOD1503. Lenovo IdeaPad S104. Acer Aspire One (XP-Based)5. Asus Eee PC 1000 XP6. HP Mini 21407. Asus N10Jc8. HP Mini 10009. Dell Inspiron Mini 910. MSI Wind U100
As with any purchase, you have to decide for yourself on what suits you best. So go ahead explore the world of Netbooks and see if it’s a better choice compared to a Laptop. While the Laptop market is declining in this economy, interestingly the Netbook sales are predicted to be on the rise. 4 Tips To Save On Ink While Using Brother Inkjet Printer Cartridges
0If you use Brother Inkjet Printer Cartridges along with a Brother Inkjet Printer, then you are probably on the lookout for effective ways in which you can go about using less ink in order to save yourself money. In this day and age the use of printer ink is necessary but it can also be rather expensive. It makes sense then that you should take advantage of the simple and no hassle tips found herein so that you can begin to save on ink while using Brother Inkjet Printer Cartridges. Tip #1: Don’t use color ink unless you have to! For starters, color ink is generally more expensive than black ink. Secondly, do you really need to have everything you print in color? Only print up things in color that absolutely need it. For example, if you are simply printing up research notes for yourself that will soon be tossed out, just use black ink. If you need to highlight things, simply use a “highlighter!” This will save you a great deal of ink and money in the end. Tip #2: There is always a debate as to whether or not you should use generic Inkjet cartridges. Though you can save yourself instant money by using these types of Brother Inkjet Printer Cartridges with your Brother Inkjet Printer, you can also ultimately damage your printer. Be aware that your Brother Inkjet Printer was designed to work with Brother Inkjet Printer Cartridges. This means that it was tested to work well with the quality ink found in these cartridges. If you use generic Inkjet Cartridges with your printer you can cause damage to your printer due to the lack of quality and even due to the design of the cartridges themselves. Therefore, if you want to get the most out of your printer stick with the printer ink that was designed specifically for your make and model. Tip #3: Monitor your printing habits. One of the main reasons that people use so much ink and are always finding themselves replacing printer ink cartridges is because they are “printer happy. ” This means that they will print anything that tickles their fancy even if they don’t need to. In order to save yourself ink and money, limit the use of your printer and only print up those things that you must absolutely have printed up. Tip #4: Check out your printer settings. Your printers handbook will come with a variety of special settings that you can program that will actually decrease the amount of printer ink that is used during common printing tasks. However, most people simply leave their printer on its default settings and are not even aware that they can save printer ink by making a few setting changes here and there. These are just four of the most helpful and relied on tips that owners of Brother Inkjet Printers follow in order to save on the expense involved in purchasing Brother Inkjet Printer Cartridges.

Satellite Internet Vs. Cellular Wireless
0If you live, work or vacation in an area that cannot get broadband Internet like DSL or cable Internet, your options are generally dialup, satellite, cellular or wireless Internet access. While dialup, satellite and cellular Internet access are usually nationwide services, wireless Internet is a locally-operated service as the best technology today can only broadcast a wireless signal 10-28 miles.
Satellite InternetSatellite Internet connects between a satellite receiver on your roof and a orbiting satellites. In order to use satellite Internet, you generally only need a clear exposure to the Southern sky. The two primary service providers are HughesNet and WildBlue.
In most cases, you will be required to purchase and maintain the equipment (e. g. software updates). Satellite Internet is much faster than dialup Internet, however download and upload speeds may vary greatly, and there typically is a latency period which makes VPN or voice-over-IP (VoIP) connections impractical.
Furthermore, additional costs are typically incurred for antenna re-alignments or adjustments.
Pros: Much faster than dialup (20-40X faster). Only requires a clear sight of the southern sky. Available at any location, no matter how remote.
Cons: Latency period which makes VPN or voice-over-IP (VoIP) connections impractical. Static IP address may be unavailable or available for an additional charge. Speeds may vary greatly. Threshold limits imposed (e. g. daily or monthly maximum usage). May be affected by weather conditions.
Cost: Typical costs are $50-150/month. Equipment and installation costs $329-$600.
Cellular Phone Wireless (aka Mobile Broadband)Several cell phone companies now offer high-speed wireless Internet via a cellular wireless card connected to your laptop. This cellular wireless card is not the same as a laptop wireless card used to connect to a home router or wifi network at a hotspot location (e. g. Starbucks).
A cellular wireless card works like dialup Internet access, but uses your cell phone to connect to the Internet. Cell phone wireless gives you the flexibility of connecting to the Internet from anywhere where you have cell phone signal. Speeds are much faster than dialup but you cannot “share” your connection with other users, and you may incur per-minute charges (depending on the plan you select).
Pros: Much faster than dialup (20-50X faster). Available at any location where you have cell phone coverage. Great for mobile professionals (e. g. realtors, field operators, etc. ).
Cons: Internet connections drop (just like regular cell phone calls do). Cannot share the Internet connection with other computers. May incur per-minute charges (depending on the plan you select).
Cost: Typical costs are $50-150/month. Setup fees may be required.

Screeching sound from my Lenovo ThinkPad T61?
1This only started happening about two weeks ago. I was sitting in English(we take our computers to school) and this horrible screeching sound just started coming from my computer after about 15 minutes of use. It wasn’t ear piercing but it was loud enough to be heard by the class with the teacher speaking. If I put my hand over it muffles it a little. Is there anyway I can fix this? I have muted this microphone and it even screeches when the volume is all the way down and muted.
