MONTREAL – (Marketwire – February 8, 2010) – Octasic Inc., a leading provider of media processing and wireless solutions, today announced its second generation Opus2 DSP core, a high-performance, Ultra-Low-Power, asynchronous DSP architecture optimized for baseband processing and multimedia transcoding. To facilitate the rating of the core Octasic is providing an integrated development environment with support for multi-standard cellular infrastructure applications.

The Opus2 core, based on the unique Octasic asynchronous Opus DSP architecture that offers the lowest power consumption in a programmable, high-performance DSP. Opus2 code is compatible with the currently shipping Opus1 core. Opus1, the DSP processor in Octasic’s Vocallo equipment is used, widely seen as a media processor in voice and video media gateways for the use of wired and wireless, Session Border Controller (SBC), IPBXs, and as a baseband processor in a multi-carrier GSM base stations.

The inclusion of the experience of extensive development on Opus1 and improvements to the design asynchronous Octasic has doubled the performance of the platform, while improving energy efficiency. For example, a single unit for Opus2 can check all the necessary processing for a full 64 user HSPA + / LTE base stations and thereby consume less than 2. 5W.

“For all have our customers – whether they are developing media gateway or wireless base stations – to improve both power and performance of their top priority,” said Robert Blake, CEO of Octasic. “Opus2 our leading position is based in the development of platforms that offer the designers the flexibility and scalability to maximize their investment in multi-standard wireless communication.”

Opus2 for wireless applications

In addition to the basic architecture improvements Opus2 has been optimized to efficiently support the air interfaces of the existing 2G and 3G standards, as well as the emerging 4G/LTE standards. Specific instructions to improve performance and performance for W / CDMA and OFDMA physical and Media Access Control (MAC) layer algorithms have been added, including instructions for rate matching, turbo coding, code generation, descrambling, chip rate processing and encryption . Improvements were also to support in a dynamically reconfigurable hardware accelerator, tightly coupled with the core Opus2 to improve the performance and seek to maintain flexibility of the software for functions such as: Random Access Channel (RACH); FFT / DFT, and advanced error correction algorithms, such as turbo decoding and convolutional turbo code (CTC).

“Once we can reduce an entire wireless product line dramatically on a single programmable architecture, both product and development lead times to support the evolving standards,” Will Strauss, president and principal analyst at Forward Concepts. “For the technology-and application-oriented world in which we live, Octasic has a flexible platform with longevity that can scale for the technology iterations are set up.”

Opus2 is full of a range of highly integrated software development environment that optimizing C compiler and simulator contains precise timing supported. Opus2 based devices from Octasic later this year for use in wireless baseband, media gateways, PBX and video products.

“Coupled view of the breadth of its capabilities, with its low power consumption and small silicon requirements which Opus2 ideally suited to scalable solutions to meet the challenges in the design of affordable housing Femtocell and the high performance requirements of a multi-standard to create macro BTS, “said Emmanuel Gresset, Octasic’s vice president of software defined radio. “We can ensure hard for our customers superior products for a variety of applications on a single architecture to develop voice DSP baseband video worked.”

For wireless developers looking for high-performance, low-power solutions for 3G applications, will demonstrate Octasic an integrated reference platform with partners Computingand Continuous Analog Devices Inc. at the Mobile World Congress, February 15-18, in Barcelona, Spain, in the Canadian Pavilion, Booth 2A97 (see related announcement).
