Setting up a wireless network to share Internet access, printers, files, and much more, can very conveniently and inexpensively. Setting your own in your home or office is even better, how to surf the Web anywhere convenient for you. Plus all you need is a router and it is easier to install to be perceived as a man.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 is not really necessary for wireless networking, but it is the easiest way to network. It also helps protect against hackers, Trojans, worms and other potential intruders from the Internet. Here are the four steps in creating your own wireless network:
1st Shop for your wireless devices.
Presupposes, of course, wireless networking of the fact that you have a computer system, the wireless network adapter or a built-in network support in hardware and a broadband Internet connection. The main component shop is the wireless router, the hardware is responsible for converting the broadcast signals from your Internet connection in some form of wireless. The network adapter allows the computer to connect wirelessly to the router. (Note: Make sure that you get a wireless router, and not an access point.)
2nd Connect the wireless router.
First, you need your cable or DSL modem and unplug it to search. Next, you need your wireless router to the modem (modem connect must stay is directly connected to the internet). Do this by adding an end of the network cable to the modem and plug the other end to the Internet, WAN or WLAN port on the router. After hooking everything up, the computer will automatically connect to a wireless router and the router will therefore send information via the modem to the Internet.
3rd Configure the wireless router.
With another network cable, connect your computer (through the network adapter) to one of the open network ports on your router (make sure the port is not labeled Internet, WAN or WLAN). When turned on, your computer will automatically connect to the router. Then open Internet Explorer on your computer and type in the address bar to configure the router. The address (and password in some cases) varies depending on the brand of your router, you should see the user guide.
When you reach the router’s configuration page, you would have the following configuration:
- Wireless Network Name (SSID). This marks the network to attempt such a way to choose something unique.
- The wireless encryption (WEP) and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA). These two used to protect your wireless network with a passphrase that you provide. You can use the password unique and long, you no longer need to remember it.
- The administrator password. This password controls your wireless network, so choose one that is unique, and you will not forget as this is necessary to make changes in your router.
After filling this up, be sure that you provide to Settings, Apply or OK to save the information. You can now disconnect the network cable from the computer.
4th Finally, you close your computer.
This method requires Service Pack 2 if you have not so it has not, download and install your computer to the router and SP2. If your computer is running on a Windows XP SP2, it should say directly that a wireless network was detected. To connect to the wireless network, follow these steps:
- Right click this wireless network icon found in the lower right corner of the screen, then click View Available Wireless Networks.
- The wireless network connection should be released soon and you should see the name of the network from you specified earlier. If you do not see it, click Refresh network list in the upper left corner of the window. Once the name, click the Connect button on the lower right.
- You will then be used to for the password entered in the Network key and Confirm network key boxes will be prompted. Wear this button and click Connect.
- Windows XP will show, the computer connects to your network and you will be connected shortly.
A note for Computer Newbies
If you are a computer novice, it is best to an ADSL Modem with wireless router to acquire wireless networks simple and straightforward.
For the built-in ADSL modem wireless router system, network connection in two simple steps are done:
1st Connect. You first need the Ethernet cable to connect the router to the PC, the phone cord from the phone jack to your router and the adapter.
2nd Configure. Once everything is connected, turn on the device, enter the IP address of the router into the browser, select the link and enter the user name of your Internet Service Provider provided.
