The Amazing Acer AspireRevo: Rethinking Business Desktop
I’ve thought about it a lot. We Netbooks that cost less than $ 400 and are actually more capable than many notebooks we gave people three years ago. This week started the Acer AspireRevo, a desktop product with the ION Nvidia graphics platform, which should sell for around $ 300 business volumes and in fact compete with the desktop hardware, which we probably pay much more for today.
This is to bug me off. We have this amazing new technology to buy and operate less cost – it usually requires about a third of power – is far more portable, takes up much less desk space, is much quieter, and is usually far more attractive than what we currently give employees. And in a market cry better values, we do not have anything in this class and for business customers.
Let’s talk about the game-changing possibilities of products such as the AspireRevo and similar netbooks what they need for the economy, and why we should have more to ask for them.
Turning a netbook / nettop in a notebook / desktop PC
What the Acer AspireRevo showcases the winning combination of Intel’s Atom processor and Nvidia graphics ION system. Most Net-art products have very limited graphics, which reduces substantially in their ability and usually is covered by the minimum for the day. ION is contributing to this graphics capabilities, and the combination of atomic and ION seems that perfect storm kind of product that small, good-looking, quietly provide competent and cost-effective.
At about the size of a hardback book, or less than 1 / 16 the size of the many mini-tower desktop is the AspireRivo both surprisingly small and attractive. This is the desktop equivalent of the MacBook Air with a difference – a purchase price between $ 300 and $ 400 The product has a complete interface with both VGA and HDMI connections to monitors, 6 USB ports, one eSATA port and a four-in-one card reader. It is the only one with this technology, ION announced so far.
The product can be bolted to a wall or behind a monitor, making it ideal for small cabins, Healthcare, Hotel Executive Center, Call Center and receptionists in particular and desirable, who most currently do not need a high-end PC (only about 5-7 percent of the employees need a high-end PC, and that could be too high).
So why not a business lines?
Security is missing: Missing TPMs, card reader
Part of the problem is that there is no netbooks with Trusted Platform Modules (TPM). Self-encrypting drives were to request a bid, although they are often not turned on properly for Business PCs for some time. In addition, no one has yet brought any of these products with a biometric reader or Smart Card reader built into them, making it difficult for them in many stores that have security concerns, sell, at least as large concerns such as energy conservation. There are no business lines that this technology yet, and lines are special services which the consumers increasingly differentiate PC from a business PC. Finally, the class is usually not with optical drives that have integrated in general and in most PC offerings.
However, the security technology to be added quickly and inexpensively. Putting Netbooks in business lines is simply a product manager’s decision and considering how we usually receive applications and updates over the cloud today, we really do not need an optical drive?
Rethinking the Desktop
I am convinced we are at the beginning of the third reincarnation of the personal computer and that we urgently need to reduce the complexity on the desktop to increase costs down, and reliability. I think it is time for the desktop and look at products like the AspireRevo and ask instead, “to think, why?” for companies to ask: “Why not?
