Question : Cisco Cables – USB to Serial Converter for Cisco Console Cable?
I’m trying to connect to several Cisco Routers & switches to a Cisco rollover console cable. My Laptop (Dell, dual boots Windows XP and Novell works well under Windows, but I am having trouble under SLED10 it does not have a nativ 9 pin serial port, so I am trying to use USB to Serial adapter cables via 1 of the USB ports. I have done a lot of online searches, and I understand I need to make sure that my USB cable-roll cable is recognized. I do not know how to do this at all. Secondly I do need to install & configure a terminal emulation program just like Minicom to set up the port-cable parameters.

People who work with Cisco network equipment really need to be able to connect to the console ports on there device. In Windows, you can simply start up Hyper-Terminal to get the basic access to your device. If you are using Linux, then you need to know how this can be done with an application called Minicom.

First, you are going to need a Cisco console cable buy at http://www.diablocable.com , a Cisco device, and a computer. If your computer has a serial port, then you can use the standard console cable that comes with every Cisco device.
