I usually don’t like an enterprise-wide upgrade like that until *after* the first service pack is released. Call me a chicken, but it seems that M$ will fix it for the real world after the first year.
Will it be a new server? with new accounts, etc? Then i would guess not too many hazards would be encountered.
But a migration from an older version? Almost anything could happen. You could end up with an slow or unresponsive server, worst case, or the migration could be flawless and everybody wins.
Some pitfalls to look for in migration:
1.*READ* the documentation on migration.
2. Virus scanning software – not so much file system scanners, but those that are made for scanning Exchange.
3. You will probably need to uninstall incompatible, obsolete windows server components before the upgrade. Also, I’d uninstall any Exchange add-on components, such as Intelligent Message Filter. See step 1.
4. Check with your Backup solution provider. Make sure the software you use will work with Exchange 2007, or if an upgrade would be required. You wouldn’t want to incur the extra cost of a new backup system, too!
