can i get basic cable tv through my high speed cable internet connection?
Question : can i get basic cable tv through my high speed cable internet connection?
I am currently paying for high speed cable internet (100 Mbps i think) and someone told me that the cable tv signal is already embeded all i have to do is hook it up to my tv and use a splitter to still get internet also. I tried this and i do get about 60 channels but they are all pretty snowy and there is static. Is there a way to improve the signal? And if there is… Is this illegal? My friends reasoning is that i am already paying for the signal so its mine… not like im taking it from the neighbors…any way, thanks for any help

I’m guessing it’s likely considered illegal but that lots of people do it. You can probably look for a high qaulity converter or cable to improve the picture qulaity? Good luck…
I work for charter communications. If the signal makes it in, and you havent tampered with the connections on the cable line, then its legit, as long as your paying for the high-speed. First tho, go to radioshack and get a high frequency splitter. also get a piece of rg-6 quad shield to run to your tv. if this does not resolve your picture quality, then the cable company has “trapped” or blocked out your video service and the filter traps may be leaking signal thru. what ever you do, DO NOT open the box at the road or climb the pole and remove this filter. They routinely check for the presence of these filters and they will prosecute you for theft. 10 years and/or up to 100,000 bucks. a coworker of mine tapped his own line and they busted him. be careful.
