VirginMedia cable broadband service gave me cable router that is currently only connectable straight to desktop computer. I want to connect it to my belkin wireless router so that i can also get internet wirelessly to my laptop. Have tried connecting ethernet cable from cable box to port on router labelled “DSL line” but this doesn’t seem to work. Any ideas please?

Routers are not plug and play and require initial setups. You should be using the install guide.
Here are what your physical connections should look like.
1) Cable from wall to DSL Modem
2) Ethernet cable from DSL modem to WAN (Internet) port on the router
3) Ethernet cable from ethernet port on router to Desktop ethernet port
Now using the desktop log into the routers setup. This is done by typing the routers IP address in a browser window.
You will then need to setup your internet connection. Since you have DSL you will select the PPPOE connection type and type in your Username and password you use to connect to your ISP.
YOu will then need to go and name the SSID in the wireless section. DOnt attempt to turn on any security features until you get everything working.
Save your settings and reboot everything.
Turn on the wireless on your laptop and look for wireless signals. COnnect to the one with the same name you put in the routers SSID and that should do it.
