Best answer:
ADSL is the common consumer type of DSL. But whether it is ADSL or SDSL, it still uses the same standard phone lines. Supposedly twisted pair phone cables work better for longer distances, but I have even used a regular flat modular 25′ phone extension cord for DSL without any speed degradation. After all, the signal is probably coming thousands of feet through regular phone wires.
But it is confusing that you say you need a DSL cable to go from your wireless router to your filter, unless your wireless router is actually a combination modem/router. And you should not need a filter for DSL unless you are using a filter/splitter that has an unfiltered port for DSL and a filtered port for phone, fax, etc.
Anything from your DSL modem to the phone system can use regular phone cables, but anything on your network side of the modem would use ethernet cables.
