I have an outside antenna that uses a coax cable for HDTV. Do they make a coax to HDMI cable adapter?
Question : I have an outside antenna that uses a coax cable for HDTV. Do they make a coax to HDMI cable adapter?
Now it seems to me that cable companies run Coax to all of their customers, and charge for HD. Now using my attic antenna I have a coax cable running from that to my TV and get up to 1080i Broadcast signal. Now if it is that difficult to make a converter, why am I only using a coax cable to my television to get HDTV?
coax cable

You are missing a lot of steps.
Your TV has a tuner that lets you pick out 1 channel out of 10-20 that the antenna can see.
And … you only have 5-10 channels total. Cable and Sat companies carry hundreds of stations (ESPN, HBO, Showtime, Food Network, CNN, etc.) that are never broadcast over the air so you can never get these channels with just an antenna.
There are box’s you can buy like the DishNetwork HDTVPal that takes antenna feed in, will record/pause/rewind, but give you HDMI output if this is what you are looking for. Runs about $ 300 with no subscription/monthly costs.
They also make HDTV tuners for about $ 150 you can buy at BestBuy that take antenna signals in and offer HDMI out.

As Grumby mac mentioned, the signal from the antenna (or the coax cable) is modulated. You need a tuner to demodulate it. This is done either by the TV or a set-top box.
