Can I plug in an ethernet cable into a wireless router to get wireless internet access on the network?
Question : Can I plug in an ethernet cable into a wireless router to get wireless internet access on the network?
If so, are the router, ethernet cable, access to the network, and notebook the only things I would need? If not is there a way I can do that? Also what is the difference between CAT-5 and CAT-6 ethernet cable? Will either one work to connect to the network?

To configure a router (wireless or not) you have to connect to it with a cable the first time. Once you have run the set up CD and configured the router, and turned on the wireless feature in it, you connect to it wirelessly without a cable. Just go to the Control panel and double click the “Wireless Wizard” icon. It will set up additional wireless laptops for you.
Use can use either at Cat5 or a Cat6 cable. The difference is that a Cat6 cable has a twist in two of the wires in it that enable the cable to carry the signal faster. But as a Cat5 is already faster than a home router, you would gain nothing by using a Cat6 in home applications.

If you have broadband then just in sert the cable from the phone line to the wireless router and a internet wire (which is different from the one that goes from the phone line to the router) insert one end into the main computer and the other into the wireless router, and this way any other device will be able to use wireless internet

From your modem you connect to your router using CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable. The only difference between 5 and 6 is quality and cost. 6 is higher.
You will have to program the router to send wirelessly. You may want to secure your transmissions, encrypt them, in which case each notebook PC will need the password. This is all do-able with the equipment you mentioned.
