Question : Would it be cheaper to build a laptop to match the alienware m17x?
I want a powerful laptop. over the years i keep buying standard laptops that restrict me from everything i really want to do on it. im a big gamer. console mainly but i want a laptop that i can do everything with especially gaming. is it possible and would it be cheaper to build a laptop as powerful as the alienware m17x. wich is what i really want.

Laptops are EXTREMELY hard to build, especially finding the individual parts for a LAPTOP,so i would say no also because individual parts for laptops cost a lot more, thats why i build PC Desktops. but for laptops, i have only built one, and it cost more than i wanted… so your answer is no.
Go for a desktop man. so much better. and cheaper.

Unlike desktops, few components in a laptop are standardized. And almost everything has to be soldered directly to the motherboard. This is why it’s virtually impossible to make one yourself. So if you really want a gaming laptop you have no other choice but to buy one.
But do consider carefully how you plan on using the system. If the computer isn’t going to leave your house much, a decent desktop might make more sense (and be considerably cheaper). You could always play older titles that should have no trouble running on a fairly modern notebook (Half Life 2, WarCraft 3, etc) when you are on the go.
