How much worth does the MCITP have?
Question : How much worth does the MCITP have?
I have no experience in the IT field and looking to get into. Is this worth the effort to get my foot in the door? I have CompTIA A+ and Net+ but people with those are a dime a dozen.

MCITP has worth, and you should pursue it, definitely. However, it won’t help you land that first job in the IT field. There seems to be a misconception / nasty false rumor flying around that entry-level certs like A+ and Network+ and MCITP for example have no value, not even to entry-level job seekers. Actually, once you know the truth about how these certs affect your IT job search, the actual value will really surprise you, or maybe even shock you.
Employers are using these entry-level certs not to decide who to hire for entry-level jobs…but rather who NOT to hire for more experienced level jobs. Read that last sentence again. Now read it AGAIN.
The thinking seems to be along the lines of…well, you’ve been working in IT for a few years now…so why are you not A+, Network+ and Microsoft something or other certified? There is an assumption that after you’ve been in IT for a couple years, you will have certain certifications. And if you don’t have them? Well, it looks bad. It can be the difference between an interview (you have the entry level certs PLUS some experience) or your resume ends up in the round file.
You need to get MCITP, but…when you list this on your resume, list it as MCP, MCITP, CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ certified. If you are MCITP, you are also MCP. MCP is more widely looked for by resume’ screeners, both human AND NON-HUMAN. Don’t forget most resume’s are actually read by computer now. MCP is the string that the computers are looking for, even though MCITP is a little higher cert.
If you are looking for entry-level job in the IT field, the most common qualification employers are looking for is a bachelor’s degree in information technology. Some will accept tech school plus some experience (yeah, I know…how do you get the experience?)
But if you are serious about making IT your career of choice, you need the MCITP eventually. And higher microsoft certs, as well. The sooner you get them, the better it will look on your resume’. And keep in mind that NOT having them on your resume’ can greatly hold you back when going from one job to a (hopefully better) different job.
