I mean, of course there will be tax on top of that as well, but for under $ 1100 is that a good deal?

My uses will be primarily photo editing with Photoshop CS and Lightroom. I also want to get into video editing possibly… I do a bit of gaming, but nothing intensive, Guild Wars, some older RTS’s, and if permitting I will play Civ 4, but its not a ‘need’.

My main questions here are:
- I downgraded to Windows XP because I’m quite happy with XP, and find it to be an overall better OS (am currently on W7 and I like it, but its kind of buggy and overall I prefer XP just for its reliability)… Is it unwise to try to stay with XP or should I leave it on W7 Home Premium?
- I will upgrade RAM if I were to stay on W7, but with XP 2GB is sufficient… Once I get it though and if its not then I will upgrade myself.
- I upgraded it to 7200RPM from 5400RPM for $ 30, I’ve read conflicting things saying the faster drive is helpful and makes a big difference, others say it doesn’t… What say you?
- CPU is pretty good from the looks of it… no question there.

Thanks for advice.

You can go with XP that’s not a problem, it’s your personal choice. Most of things you mentioned is wise decision. You can find excellent deals at Amazon, around $ 829, you can order more 2 GB ram around $ 50 from amazon and make it 4 GB that will be good to have.

You can save almost $ 250 at amazon for this laptop.

Overall my review is this laptop is good at configuration but not really value for money, cost is bit high than what value it offers.

If you really like to go for laptop around $ 1100, the below will be great option

HEWLETT PACKARD – HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition Espresso Black – Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-820QM Processor (1.73GHz, 8MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB) , 4GB DDR3, 500GB SATA HD, 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M , 15.6″ diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366×768), Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer , Webcam , Wireless-G Card, Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Microsoft(R) Works 9.0

1. It has latest Core i7 (with 8 MB L2 and 1333MHz FSB)
2. 4 GB DDR3
3. 500 GB SATA
4. 1 GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230
5. 64 bit

This is excellent value for your $ 1100, you can find this product at
