Is it true that it’s best to find airline tickets deals on the internet late at night?
Question : Is it true that it’s best to find airline tickets deals on the internet late at night?
I am searching for airline deals on a trip from Detroit to Richmond VA. I heard it’s best to shop for online airline deals late at night on the internet and/or on Monday or Tuesday of the week. Does anyone know this to be true? If not, are there any other “times” of the day or night to search for deals? Thanks so much for your help. My trip is not until August, so I have time to search.

There is no time during a day that will be cheaper then any other time.
The closer to the date of travel the more expensive it will be. Remember when it’s night time where you are it is day time somewhere else and people from both countries could be using the same site at the same time.
It used to be that all the strategizing and pricing would happen during the work day where analysts look over their competitors pricing and may temporarily lower prices on a few select seats to send a message to the other airline to back off on some aggressive pricing or enter a pricing war. Back then, overnight pricing and weekend pricing would be set slightly high to be left unattended till the next business day. Now the pricing is being done by yield management software which runs all the time and is based upon various formulas for projected sales using various statistical methods and competitor advertised rates as boundary conditions. There’s no telling whether or not overnight bookings will garner more deals, about the only thing you can say is that overnight bookings will tend to be private consumers while daytime bookings will tend to be business customers and the software might be geared towards maximizing the prices during the business day since business travel is more likely to occur anyways. From what I understand, prices used to be set three times a day but now with the software, it could be changing minute by minute. Note each time you go to their website for a quote, that’s input into their yield management software so if you try too many variations in scheduling, they could be picking up on your interest in a given route, basically be prepared to act quickly to lock in a deal. Try to do your research well in advance, there are websites of independent industry analysts that have good information as to how to get the best deals.
