I sell IBM 305 servers and find that many people have the same questions about what will fit into them and how they work. This video just shows the IBM 305 off a little to help people understand the 1U rackmount server.

It has space for two 3.5″ drives. Usually we do a RAID1 using a 3ware 7000/8000 or a 3Ware 9550 SATA. the chassis has two MOLEX power connectors so can power two drives just fine. We have thousands of these hosting web sites and mail servers. They are great for COLO because they are so small(1U), low heat and well proven as servers.

Hello. There was a time when we didn’t want to spend $20K to replace all desktops in the Atlanta office. So, we put on under everyone’s desk just powered but not doing anything for a few weeks. People were fine with it and we moved forward. I created an XP image and we used 50 of them as workstations for a year or more. Mounted under the desk, no one heard or cared. If you get a bad fan, however, that’s a different story.
