Is there an organization that provides laptop computers to disabled persons?
Question : Is there an organization that provides laptop computers to disabled persons?
My sister in law has had MS for 30+ years and is wheelchair bound. She would like a laptop computer to view the WWW and communicate via e-mail. She lives in upstate NY.

I know of several for young adults and kids but none for older adults.

There are many people/places that will donate desktop computers, but none that I know of that will donate laptops. In fact many organizations are desperate to get rid of desktop monitors as they cannot be recycled.
If your sister in law decides she can handle a desktop she can call almost any charity and they will have gotten a recent call from a business wanting to donate.

This might be a weird idea but you could ask your local paper if they would run an ad for you free where you could ask people if they might have a laptop they could donate to her.
Another idea is to call electronic stores in your town and ask if they might like to donate a laptop.
You could also get your friends and her friends together and take up a donation or have a fundraiser. It wouldn’t take more than a weekend of washing cars or a bake sale or a garage sale to raise enough for a nice laptop.

I think you have to ask to your local government about the organizations that provides laptops for disabled people. Or ask someone you know in some org like Rotary Clubs, Mason’s, and in churches. If none of that, to your friends who are not using there laptops and borrow it. Then if someone you know that has a laptop that is old already and he/ she bought a new one. Then ask him if you can have the old one.
