Question : I have my laptop connected to a Cisco Switch to port fa 1 but I can not ping my switch..?
I have my laptop connected to a Cisco Switch to port fa 1 but I can not ping my switch..i have it connected with a straight-thru cable…I have configure the switch with an Ip address and default gateway and also the not shut…..what configuration do I have to add so my switch to connect to my laptop?

What kind of switch is this? Your not plugged into the Management FA1 port are you? That is a restricted port for management only (though I would think you could ping the SVI). I assume you have either created a VLAN other than 1 and placed your port in their, or left all ports in VLAN 1 (which is pre-created) and then you have assigned an IP address in whatever VLAN you are in? What you do a “show interface” what is the state of your port (fa1) and the state of the SVI (VLAN Interface)?
