Question : Test Disk: Data recovery over the network?
Can anyone tell me of a method of using the TestDisk/Photrec program? I need to recover my files but I do not reallyu want to remove any external drives from the host computer. If not, are there any programs that can do this as well?

PhotoRec is about the best program there is for file recovery (Test Disk is for partition recovery). Run PhotoRec in your computer. Attach an external drive to recover to, or map a drive on another computer on the network (it has to be shared on the computer it’s in) and recover to that drive. PhotoRec doesn’t care about the physical connection, as long as what you’re saving to has a drive letter and you have permission to create files on it.
Using any other program is like owning a Mercedes and crawling on your knees. The difference between TD and PR and the next best program is like the difference between a computer and a broken abacus. (I’d pay $ 1,000 for those two if I had to – they’ve saved me more than that.)

Trial version allows to view recoverable photo only, and full version costs only 30 bucks, so I bough it without trying. Luckily it worked. Just that scan may take long time depends on hard disk capacity.
