Question : Can I refill a long time unused laser printer cartridge ?
The printer has been sitting on my desk for a long time (HP 1020) and recently I have tried to print something and I noticed that the paper was almost covered in toner. I believe the toner is to old now. Can I just clean the cartridge and refill or I need a new cartridge?

It would be best to install a new toner cartridge. The toner and/or drum in your existing cartridge is probably bad from humidity and/or age, though toner is relatively stable and will last a long time, but can become contaminated by moisture or heat and the drum may be too damaged and need to be replaced. Cleaning it is not probably practical as there are many components internally that may need more than just cleaning. So it’s up to you to determine if it’s really worth your time to try to clean and refill it with the possibility that it may not work, or just purchase a new one.
