Can you have a different antivirus and firewall brand together?
Question : Can you have a different antivirus and firewall brand together?
I have Avast! Free Antivirus, and I heard I shouldn’t have 2 antiviruses installed. I heard that Avast! doesn’t have a firewall.

I don’t know about free, but Norton works really well. You have to buy it in actual electronic stores, though.

No you should not have two anti-virus installed, and Avast does not have a firewall. You do have the windows firewall which is fine for a one way firewall. If you want a very strong firewall Here’s a link to some free firewalls and information about them.

Id rather not put all my eggs in one basket. meaning its better yo have a combination of firewall/antivirus and antidspyware from different companies rather than getting a complete suite.
Avast is one of the best you can have in terms of overall protection.
for free firewall: you can have a choice among comodo, online armor and outpost firewall, they all have free versions from cnet or filehippo.i used to have a comodo-avast combination but recently i tried outpost firewall together with avast

Yes, you can use different brands.
I use the Avast free antivirus with the Comodo free firewall.
It was mentioned in an above answer that the Windows firewall is good; but that depends which version of Windows you have.
The firewall in Vista and Win 7 is decent, but the firewall in XP is inadequate.
