Brushes and Ink versus Computer Graphics?
Question : Brushes and Ink versus Computer Graphics?
I’m an aspiring manga-ka/artist in general. I’ve gotten to the point where Sharpies and pencil isn’t really gonna cut it for me. So: what would be a better investment-
Inks, brushes, sheets of screentone, &c.
OR
A painting computer program (and a tablet laptop to go along with it.)
Also, any other tips/recomendation would be loved!
computer ink

I used to use markers, pen and ink, and screentones. Now i ventured off into the digital art realm. its not necessary, but digital art is alot more convenient and once you get everything you wont have to spend anymore money on art supplies. It is nice to work with traditional mediums every once in awhile, but mostly everything nowadays is digital.
It’s better to learn the traditional mediums first. Computer painting programs are very useful, but are not as good for learning. when inking by hand you must be conscious of every line, it’s weight, thickness. Where it starts and where it ends. what forms are over lapping. You have to work with your mistakes. In photoshop, if you make a line you don’t like you hit ctrl+Z Line gone.
Traditional all the way for learning. In the mean time it wouldn’t hurt to try and get a copy of photoshop or painter, just so you could learn the tool sets and general principals, but if you have to choose go with traditional.
