How long do they keep medical records in California before they purge them? Do all hospitals share information? Are medical records kept longer for certain cases (like cancer, suicides, AIDS, genetic predisposition)? Are private practices the same?

Medical Records are maintained permanently for all patients and are stored on tape or on paper after the timing from the last entry has elapsed. (Normally 20 years).
