Why are people randomly kicked/disconnected from my game server?
Question : Why are people randomly kicked/disconnected from my game server?
I run a server on the same machine I play on (6600 Core 2 Duo with Comcast Cable Internet), every so often people will be randomly kicked/disconnected from my server! >:(
Is Comcast regulating the uploads and downloads with my computer and game server like they do with BitTorrent? Normally the server runs great, everyone has between 66-167 ping which is fine for Halo PC.

If you’re running a Workstation OS such as XP or Vista, you’re limited to 10 simultaneous inbound connections. (And if you’re running XP Home Edition, the limit is 5 connections) XP and Vista do a pretty good job of terminating dormant sessions so anyone who has been inactive for more than a few seconds risks getting kicked off. That’s an OS limitation imposed by Microsoft and has nothing to do with your ISP. Keep in mind that one player may have several simultaneous sessions going at one time.
If you want to host a larger number of players you’ll need to run a full-fleged server OS such as Windows Server 2003.
It’s your Comcast Cable, since it’s a shared resource. It depends on how many people are using Cable on your neighborhood at the same time as you are. And of course, i cannot leave out, Windows Game PC hosting totally sucks.
