Do computers in a network need same service pack to share printer?
Question : Do computers in a network need same service pack to share printer?
I have a Canon MP830 and recently reformatted and now can’t get my network printer to share properly. I have SP3 on the main computer hooked up to the printer and the laptop trying to access it is service pack 2. Do I need to have Service Pack 3 on both computers?

Check the FIREWALL on the “reformatted” machine. That will keep File and printer sharing from working. If you can share files, then you can share the printer.
The service packs won’t normally have any bad effect so no they do not need to be the same.
You do need the printer drivers on both machines. But you should be able to find and see the printer in the Network first.
The service pack level is irrelevant. You probably need to redo the sharing setup. Unshare everything on both computers and then run the printer sharing wizard from scratch.
