What kind of laptop should I get for college next year?
Question : What kind of laptop should I get for college next year?
I’m probably going to wander around with it all day, so there is a good chance it will get banged up. I’ve been looking into ruggedized notebooks, but they are too big to be practical for me, and I doubt I’ll need a laptop that works in arctic conditions or at high altitudes.
So I decided semi-rugged was my best choice, but I want one that’s in the 10-13 inch range and less than 4 pounds. The only ones I could find that small were the Panasonic Toughbook thin and light series and I was hoping for more options; are there others out there?
FYI: I will probably be using it mostly to go on the internet and write papers. I always have a couple internet windows up browsing through myspace or facebook. I’m not a gamer. I like to listen to music and watch movies, but I’m sure I can get a separate CD/DVD drive. It would be convenient if it had good sound, though.

Sony Vioa( wrong spelling) or Hp’s Dells are custimizable so you could get a better baterie. Non gamers probably want 1 gig of ram, dual core processor, and good graphics card. Your operating system should be Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate(recomended but expensive.) You may just have to get a larger laptop. Theres alot of backbacks you can get that have a space to carry your laptop if thats what your worried about. Vista systems have exceptional sound and graphics

Well, you should probably try Sony VAIO TX series or SZ series. TX series is 11.1 inches with 2.8 pounds… SZ series is a little bit bigger 13.3 inches and weighs 4.1 pounds (standard edition) and 3.7 pounds (carbon fiber edition).
I think that Sony should probably best for you, especially the SZ series if you want to listen to music and watch videos or even edit videos. The great thing about VAIO SZ series is that it has Core 2 Duo Processor which is the fastest in laptop right now and saves battery life.

Dell has amazing notebooks and they have good memory. The best part, though, is that you can customise it to fit what you need to do. I want an Alienware, but like you said, your not an avid gamer like me, but it is still great for watching nice and clear movies. Still, I think you need a customized Dell.

I got a HP Pavilion laptop, and its great. Its very light, the screen is bright, and its got a lot of memory for my music and such. I’m not a gamer either, and i just use my laptop mostly for writing papers and going on the internet. If you are getting a notebook, get a wireless router too so you can be on the Internet anywhere in your house and you arent attached to the wall.
