Question : what is the best firewall protection a person can have to block users from gaining access to your ISP?
I was wondering what the best firewall or software program there is out there that will block people from gaining access to your ISP.

You don’t want to block ALL access! All 32,256 ports?
I prefer the free http:///ipcop.org that runs on a single older system, headless. It permits total control by me.

The way the question is worded, you don’t want anyone accessing the internet (your Internet Service Provider).
Just don’t let them on your computer.
If you want to keep people from accessing your computer through your ISP, assuming you have broadband, get a router.
It acts as a firewall.
When someone from the internet looks at your connection, it sees the router not your computer.
If you’re on dialup, quit worrying, there are too many people with broadband to worry about dialup users. -

You may be somewhat confused as to the actual question you want answered. I’m going to assume you want to keep people from gaining access to your computer THROUGH your ISP.
Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) had best be able to take care of itself and not need you to run interference for it. Otherwise, get a new ISP.
As for your computer itself, a number of packages are available, for free, to block incoming probes, etc. I’ve used the Sygate Personal Firewall (Free version) for several years on a dial-up server, in conjunction with AVG (free) antivirus, and keep my network clean and free of hackers.
