Intel Core i3 540 CPU LGA1156 Dual Core Processor Unboxing & First Look Linus Tech Tips
dual core processor
What’s special about this CPU is that it’s a dual core, but the performance of each individual core is very similar to the “old” Core i5 quad cores and Core i7 quad cores. The Core i3 and Core i5 dual cores also feature high clock speeds for great performance in single threaded or dual threaded applications. Don’t forget these CPUs have onboard video now too!!

@XmortdreadX If it’s an older motherboard you’ll most likely have to upgrade everything because essentially the specific chipset you are purchasing will be fitted to support a particular CPU’s socket. For example, if you’re purchasing a M2A-VM motherboard you’ll have to purchase the appropriate CPU for that boards socket, I believe its the AM2 and AM3 socket.

@XmortdreadX Also remember that a GPU will only perform as well as the CPU that’s giving it the instructions. the graphics card is limited by the CPU and its performance will severely be diminished if you’re using a system build where the CPU can’t keep up with the cards instructions. Everything literally comes down to the CPU and its architecture.

just bought a sick bundle from overclockers.co.uk – artic freezer 7 fan with this processor, msi h55 ddr3 motherboard (can’t wait to try out these integrated graphics) and standard 4GB RAM. £225 I can’t go wrong. Not only that theyve overclocked the processor to a whopping 4Ghz… Fuck you i5, my i3 will piss all over yours!

I have one question, I’m building a computer with this processor, i’ve got a msi h55 ddr3 motherboard, artic freezer 7 thermal cooler so I can overclock the bad boy. My question is what type of power unit should I get, I have a couple of old ones maxing out at no more than 400w and I’m not convinced it’s powerful enough. Am I right?
