CNC Router & CNC Mill generaly categorised depend up on the material on which it used for machining.CNC Router is meant for Wood,Plastic,Composites,Non-ferrous materials etc…,CNC Mill meant for Machining Ferrous Materials.For More information on CNC Router visit website http://www.cncrouter.info

Basically I would say that the router is designed to work on wood, plastic etc whereas the Mill is specific for metal. The number of axis has nothing to do with it. I have seen reference to a 5 axis router and I had a friend who owned a 6 axis mill. Both can have fewer.

A CNC Router machine has a similar operation with a plotter and controls by a computer. The CNC Router works on the 3D motion control to make high quality parts for you. Basically, the CNC Router has three axes X, Y and Z. Each axis will be motorized with stepper motor or servo motor that drives the router via a gantry system to form a 3 axis CNC Router machine.
Basically, a CNC mill is a machine tool that removes material with a multiple-tooth cutting tool from a workpiece by rotating a cutter called a milling cutter and moving it into the workpiece and removes the unwanted materials from workpiece. The CNC Mill also controls by the CNC controller and has 3 axes, x, y and z.
The cutting action of the milling cutter provides a fast method of machining. The workpiece must somehow be securely fastened to the milling machine table and it is fed against the revolving milling cutter. The milling cutters can have cutting teeth on the periphery or sides or both. The cutting teeth can be straight or spiral.
