Question : Application Load/Stress Testing Tools – Recommendations of tools, websites, and reasons why.?
Greetings,

I would like recommendations for application load/stress testing tools for client/server applications. I would appreciate the website the product can be found at and why you like/dislike a particular product.
In addition if you happen to know where a comparison of load testing tools can be found it would be appreciated.
I realize that Mercury’s LoadRunner will most likely be at the top of most of your lists, but I would appreciate other options.

A free tool I have used before is prime95, the program is actually part of a distributed computing project to find new prime numbers. However, due to the processor intensive calculations it can be used to stress test a system

In conjunction to prime 95 you might want to run SpeedFan. SpeedFan can monitor CPU temperatures, fan rpms, and whatever other sensors your motherboard has installed. While running the prime95 it might be wise to run SpeedFan and watch your CPU.
