I thought, would reduce prices pc when Vista arrived. Boy, was I wrong! Vista because it is current requirements (RAM and processor), they have not. I thought everyone would cut prices to get rid of the old XP systems. Vista was bad for new purchases as making it an upgrade when you buy a new computer or add a lot of RAM or new purchase necessary.
Prices are mostly driven by what people will pay. The computer manufacturers lower their prices as technology becomes older and more common…thus subject to more competition and potentially less demand. The technology on the cutting edge will remain expensive…as expensive and the manufacturers can price it and still sell it.
Have you noticed that the cheap computers have been around $ 300 to $ 500 for several years now? I suspect the manufacturers have simply found that balance between making a decent profit and what customers are willing to pay. If basic PC’s were still over $ 1,000 like they were 10 or 12 years ago, people would buy far fewer of them.
