I work at a hotel, and our room charge/key cards often don’t scan on the first couple of tries. If we wrap them in plastic wrap, or thermal paper from the receipt printer; most of the time they will then scan successfully. We are scanning them when a guest is making a purchase at a computer/register. We hardly ever have this problem with regular credit cards, just the hotel’s cards. Just wondering what is the science involved. Thanks

The magnetic strip on the card is very sensitive to magnets. That’s why the reader is tuned very low to avoid damaging the strip. If there’s any dirt on it, it won’t scan. When you put the paper/plastic, you clean up the magnetic head. Remember tape players? You get the best sound when the head is clean.

It depends, most of the black and white laser printers now have the option for the color scan. But i think there might be few which don’t.

1 / (A’s time) + 1 / (B’s time) = 1 / (Total time for A and B)
1 / 3 + 1 / 5 = 1 / T
Get a common denominator, so you can add these fractions…
5 / 15 + 3 / 15 = 1/ T
8 / 15 = 1 / T
Cross-multiply, and you get…
8T = 15
T = 15 / 8 (or 1.875) hours

I’m staging about 30 various dell servers, I need to collect any and all drivers installed on them and make them available off line for disaster recovery. Does not have to be freeware, I’ll pay for the best available. pretty much have all versions (32 and 64) of all Windows Server OS here that may need it.
